Vin and Kelsier Character Designs

Here are some designs I needed to get out of my system. Vin & Kelsier from Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn. One of my all time favorite book series.

These were sketched traditionally then inked and colored digitally in Procreate.

I wanted to go with a simplistic almost animated feel to the design and specifically the look of the Mistcloaks and am pleased with the outcome.

For Vin’s colors, I wanted them to reflect her more introverted, guarded nature, as well as her past so I chose a dark blue/grey. And some clothes that weren’t very feminine so she could potentially pass as a boy.

For Kel I wanted him to feel more alive and vibrant. He might be a little too happy here but I always imagined him as confident and smiling in the face of evil. The red hopefully reflects that outgoing persona he’s crafted.
