Jim Henson’s THE STORYTELLER: Witches

Various pages and sketches from my issue of Jim Henson’s THE STORYTELLER: Witches which was based on a teleplay about Baba Yaga one of my favorite folklore figures, written by Anthony Minghella and adapted into comic by me. Published by Archaia Entertainment & Boom Studios

I adapted this issue from a teleplay, it was challenging but fun. Scroll down for more!

Baba refers to her food as her “little chickens” but she also refers to children as the same. Without saying it, I wanted to imply she was in fact eating children. I’m not sure if that ever came across but I liked the end result anyway!

I like the shadow of Baba’s arm in panel 2. Reminds me of old b&w silent films with vampires.

My inspiration for Baba Yaga’s look was a cross between Miyazaki’s Baba from Howls Moving Castle, Gollum from LOTR, and Aughra from the Dark Crystal
